CBSE and global education service provider, Pearson Education, joined hands to set up a centre for developing quality research capabilities and applying best practices to school based assessment and teaching techniques.
CBSE schools and its teachers stand to benefit from the ‘Centre for Assessment, Evaluation and Research’ being set up on a PPP mode, primarily working on grass root research and applications.
Initially it will focus on the impact of the recent CBSE innovations such as continuous comprehensive evaluation programme in classrooms and life skills curriculum, said CBSE chairman, Vineet Joshi.
It will draw on relevant international best practices to arrive at recommendations for improving teaching practices and approaches to assessment before rolling out an extensive programme of professional development of teachers, he added.
“It also seeks to look at the process of examinations, analyse the results, see what further improvement can be done and what type of training to be given to teachers if there is any shortcomings among its host of core activities,” he told reporters here.
HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal, who announced the formation of the centre, felt one of the prime areas for any assessment is to evolve mechanism where a child is able to discover himself and communicate.
Joshi said the centre would prove helpful to policymakers with its inputs to take informed decisions on admission policies, screenings policies etc.
Senior vice-president of Pearson on research and assessment Jim Tognolini and Joshi said another objective of the centre would be evaluation of exam results, analyse them and help decide on the type of questions to be set.
Sibal said the Centre was another example of successful PPP model moving towards setting up centres of excellence.
“This will ensure we match global best practices in education,” he said.
